Genesis 19:17
So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”

The true story of the deliverance of Lot and family has extremely relevant lessons for today’s believers. Firstly, Lot and company lived in morally decadent times. Society was so corrupt and evil that the wrath of God hung over it while everybody was totally oblivious to it.

The description in today’s text makes it crystal clear that Lot and all were totally unaware of the imminent judgment upon them. Just like today! The level of immorality in our cultures and societies has reached astronomic proportions. Sin, evil and wickedness are rampant. Ungodliness has become normal. To live righteously is shunned upon. Lies, sexual immorality, unbelief, greed, hypocrisy, pride, injustice, violence, hate, witchcraft and idolatry have become commonplace. We are no different from Sodom and Gomorrah!

Like Lot and company, many today still linger and dither in their walk with Jesus. Many in the church today only devote halfhearted allegiance to God. Many of us lack a sense of urgency. We are not in a hurry. We saunter to worship services. We neglect prayer and find excuses against doing what we must for God. We behave as though we have all the time in the world. Beloveds, we don’t! Jesus is coming again.

Escape for your life! Do not look behind you. Run the race of faith looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Seek the Lord while He may be found. Draw near to God with your whole heart. Serve the Lord with gladness.

“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? (2 Peter 3:11-12). Sobering thoughts!
