John 14:15
If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Christians can be funny sometimes. Just like in marriage, really loving Jesus is not about having a fuzzy feeling, goosebumps or butterflies in your tummy. That’s for teenage infatuation! Loving Christ is not about raising our hands in worship while crooning, “Oh how I love Jesus”. We should not treat Jesus like some celebrity we adore from a distance but have no relationship with.

Rather, loving Jesus is about obeying Him. In God’s sight, to love Him is to obey Him. The proof of love for Christ is obedience. It’s about commitment to His will. That means if you say you love the Lord but disobey Him, you are not being truthful. The devil and his gang are perfectly at home with Christians who profess love for God but do not perform His will. Such “saints” are harmless to the kingdom of darkness.

How did the angel of Yahweh confirm Abraham’s love for God? The proof was Abraham’s obedience. “Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son” (Genesis 22:12b). Faith without works is dead. So is love without obedience.

Dear friend, can Jesus confirm your love for Him today on the basis of your obedience? What commandments of God are you overlooking? Are you complying to the revealed will of God in your life as a believer? You should. So should I. Look, as long as you make excuses for your disobedience, you will be denying your love for Christ. You’ll never know the blessings reserved for those who love and obey the Lord. What will you do from today?
