When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. Acts 16:7

Paul and his team moved on the basis of the revealed will of God. They did not sit and wait indefinitely. Our text indicates that they intended to go and minister in Bithynia. That means they actually made concrete plans and preparations to go there. They had every right to do so, because such a mission fell within their overall mandate to “go ye therefore” (Mat 28:19). The Holy Spirit only corrected their specific direction and target while they were planning and moving in obedience.

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to steer a parked car? Yet once a car is in motion, it’s so easy to turn the steering wheel and guide the car in the preferred direction. So it is in the Spirit beloveds. Being led by the Holy Spirit does not exempt us from PLANNING and TAKING ACTION according to the revealed light of God. We must walk in the light (truths) God has already revealed to us through Scripture and the Spirit.

Remember the Bible says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). Put differently, this means God’s purpose in your life prevails when you play your part in planning and preparing to take massive action. So do not be a victim of a spiritualised paralysis! Don’t fall for the trap of armchair analysis and criticism. Be actively involved in the Master’s mission.

In summary, here are four helpful steps. First, do your best to discern the will of God as revealed in the Scriptures. Second, make appropriate plans. Third, remain open to the guidance of the Spirit. Fourth, take massive action. Don’t procrastinate. May God bless you as you get into action and keep in step with the Holy Spirit!
