The Lord said to me, “I knew you before you were formed within your mother’s womb; before you were born I sanctified you and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.” Jeremiah 1:4-5 TLB

Growing up in a large family, one question used to bother my young mind very deeply. Being my parents’ sixth child out of a dozen of us, I used to feel like just a “statistic”. I remember one day asking Mother the question, “Mum, do you love ME also?” She was stunned but must have discerned the pain in my question, because her tender answer reassured me. She explained that all her children are precious each in their own way. She said she and Dad love each one of us in a special way, because we are ALL special in their eyes. She said no child can replace another. Wow! That certainly helped this young lad back then. And, years later, knowing God and His Word more and more further reassured me more and more.

Dear friend, your journey with God doesn’t begin when you’re born or even when you’re born again. Neither does it start in your mother’s womb. Now, that’s mind boggling! For we learn from God’s word that it actually begins BEFORE you were in your mother’s uterus.

That is why the circumstances of your birth actually do NOT matter. You see, spiritually speaking, your mother’s womb is only the station through which you arrived on earth. Of course, that’s not to say we must not honour our wonderful mothers. Please don’t misunderstand God’s truth here. That is why Jephtha, whom his brothers despised as an “illegitimate” son, is the one who was anointed and destined to deliver the rest of his family (Judges 8). Every child and every human being, regardless of the circumstances of his or her birth, ultimately comes from God and his or her spirit returns thither too (see Ecclesiastes 12:7).

Please understand that every human being is precious in God’s sight. None of us is irrelevant, unnecessary or worthless. None of us is an error, an accident, by chance or just a number. You were created by God for a purpose and on purpose. You were born to add value to your family, community, church and society. Your life counts. Your presence makes a difference.

Your unique personality, gifts and strengths are valuable in your earthly life as well as in the kingdom of God. So don’t waste your life. Mind your step. Discover your purpose. Live on purpose. Live for God. Walk worthy. Fear God. Shun evil. God loves you.
