In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16

This verse is quite audacious. It asserts that with your shield of faith you can ward off ALL fiery arrows of the devil in ALL circumstances. Without exception! Do you believe it?

By the way, why does the Bible refer to some spiritual attacks as “flaming darts”? Why are they considered as “fiery arrows” as other versions put it? The reason is that these instruments of war would be discharged from the bow while they are on fire or armed with some combustible material. So when such a dart hits its target, it does more than wounding-it tends to set the target on fire, burn and destroy it. Although a dart was only a light arrow, it could inflict maximum damage. The enemy’s goal wasn’t just to steal; it was to also kill and destroy (see John 10:10a). Such are the evil intents of the evil one.

My dear friends, although it is wrong for us to exaggerate the power of spiritual wickedness arrayed against us, it is equally wrong to pretend that Satan’s arrows are harmless! Too many believers are hurt nowadays because they assume these little arrows fashioned against us are all innocuous. Truth be told, that’s not what the Bible teaches at all. It says they are real and they are fiery. The goal is not to scare us but to prepare us.

But greater is He that is within you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). So dear saint, when you sense satanic attacks, regardless of how “hot” they may feel, just use your shield of faith. Don’t cry, just use your shield of faith. Don’t panic, use your faith. Don’t complain, use your faith. Don’t run and hide, use your shield of faith.

How do you do that? Speak the Word. Cancel what the enemy says by declaring what God’s word says about the situation. That was the Lord Jesus’ winning strategy (see Matthew 4:4-10). That is how you also overcome. Your Faith has the power to extinguish the fire of every satanic missile. Believe it and use it.
