Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
There is a huge misunderstanding in the church nowadays. While it is true that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, it doesn’t follow that He tolerates sin among His people. While it is true that God is rich in mercy, slow to anger and full of compassion, it doesn’t follow that everyone is a friend of God.
In order for us to be friends with God, there are conditions we must meet. Firstly, we have to believe in God. That’s why so many folks are heading straight to hell today although the price for their redemption was paid 2000 years ago. Although God loves us, we must respond to His love by putting our trust in Him.
Secondly, once you’re born again you must set your mind on things of the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. That’s how we can be friends with God. The alternative-living according to the dictates of our sinful human nature (carnality)-simply spells enmity with God. Look, saying we are Christians and not following the Spirit of Christ just doesn’t work!
So we can sing all day, “I’m a friend of God”-and still be effectively hostile to God. Our lifestyles can contradict what we profess. God forbid! Will you live like a true friend of God today? Walk by faith, walk in the light, walk in love and keep in step with the Spirit.
