Galatians 4:1
Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all.

During my childhood, there is a biblical concept I often heard my mum confess repeatedly in my mother-tongue. She would often say, “Beloveds, we are heirs of God”. Try as I might, I could not figure out its meaning, until years later. And I’m still coming to terms with the enormity of this revelation!

I have now come to realise that this is one of the greatest of all mysteries every believer must grasp by divine revelation. Why? In part because of what today’s text says. You see beloveds, if you don’t know your ROLE in the Kingdom, you’ll not know your RIGHTS, and you’ll have the wrong RESPONSE. In other words, if you don’t know who you are in Christ, you can live like a slave when you’re actually a Prince or Princess of God. God forbid!

Our text implies that an immature or ignorant Christian (Heir of God) can live just like someone who has no legal rights to the Father’s inheritance! That means uninformed believers can struggle in exactly the same way unbelievers do. How tragic it is when sinners and saints are identical!

Beloveds, all the resources of heaven are at our disposal as heirs of God. All the love, favour, wisdom, knowledge, righteousness, glory, abundance, power and more of the Kingdom belong to us as coheirs with Christ. So what’s the missing link? Revelation!

And what can we do about it? A lot. To start with, we must stop waiting for divine revelation to happen somehow on its own in our lives. Like Paul in Ephesians 1:15-19, we must PRAY for revelation. We must also BELIEVE that God wants to reveal these awesome mysteries to us. We must also prayerfully STUDY and MEDITATE on relevant Scriptures. We must also CONFESS by faith what the Word says about us.

If you are serious about growing and thriving in Christ, don’t just visit such verses occasionally. Don’t just read your Bible. Don’t just skim through Scripture. Don’t just browse through the Word. Don’t just wish it could be different. Wrestle with the Scriptures. Pray over them. Ponder over the Word. Meditate on it until it becomes part of your normal thinking. Meditate on the truth of your divine heritage until your mind is renewed and your life is transformed. Start today!
