Psalms 84:11-12
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Sunflowers are one of several plant species that make optimum use of light by turning to face the sun. This behaviour is called heliotropism or phototropism. This solar tracking practice enhances the plant’s process of creating food from light (called photosynthesis) and thus increases its growth rate.

Moreover, botanists have discovered that heliotropism also increases the flower temperature, which attracts bees and other pollinators. The rise in temperature increases the rate of pollen germination. As a result the overall fruitfulness of the sunflower crop is maximised.

Dear friends, such is the life of all believers who put their trust in Yahweh. Like the sunflower, we should be heliotropic-turning our faces toward the Lord all the time. We should intentionally seek His face throughout the day. Praise Him in the morning. Praise Him in the afternoon. Praise Him when the sun goes down. Track the face of the Lord continually. Focus on His presence all the time. Pursue His glory always. Turn your eyes upon Jesus and constantly look full in His wonderful face.

Then you and I will optimise our spiritual growth and productivity. We will grow like a palm tree and flourish like a cedar of Lebanon (to borrow another metaphor). We’ll optimise our fruitfulness. Our spiritual temperature will never subside. We’ll be continually hot for God. The Lord will give us His grace and glory. No good thing will He withhold from us. Blessed are we when we so trust in Him! Pastor Josh
