Romans 1:20
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Have you met people who claim that they are not sure God is real? I have met several. One nice Brit I met a few years ago said he respected everyone for being religious but he was still undecided about whether or not God exists. He proudly declared himself an agnostic (someone who is not committed to believing in God’s existence or nonexistence).

However, according to Scripture, no agnostic or atheist has a valid excuse. The evidence for the existence of God is abundant everywhere. That is why the psalmist says only fools claim that there is no God (Psalms 14:1). People’s reluctance to recognise the truth is no defence on the Day of Judgment.

How about questions concerning which religion is true? Well, that is a very different matter altogether, and in all fairness, a reasonable question. But still, it’s incumbent upon every sane human to seek the truth for themselves.

The tricky problem I’ve noticed concerns Christians who believe that God is real but accommodate some subtle scepticism, unbelief and doubt. Consequently, although they basically believe in God, their lives speak otherwise. So they live like any other unbeliever. Some pick and choose what biblical principles to obey. Some have stopped praying fervently and consistently.

Don’t you know that being prayer-less implies being faithless? If you truly believe that God exists and He rewards those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6), surely you’ll pray and expect heavenly results! Saints, let us beware of subtle atheism and unbelief in our hearts. It’s high time those who believe in God lived like true believers. No sitting on the fence! Let us live like authentic believers.
