John 2:3
When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
Beloveds, here we see Mary, the mother of Jesus, playing a pivotal role at the wedding in Cana. The guests have run out of wine, a situation that could bring embarrassment and shame to the host. Mary, noticing the problem, immediately brings it to Jesus’ attention, simply stating, “They have no more wine.”
This moment highlights Mary’s sensitivity to the needs of others and her trust in Jesus’ ability to help. Despite the seeming simplicity of her statement, Mary’s words carry profound significance. She acts as an intercessor, presenting the problem to Jesus and trusting in His wisdom and power to resolve it.
Mary’s role in this narrative can teach us several important lessons. Firstly, Mary was attentive and perceptive to the needs around her. Similarly, we are called to be mindful and compassionate towards those who may be struggling or in need of support.
Secondly, Mary didn’t instruct Jesus on what to do or how to solve the problem. She merely presented the need, showing her complete faith in His ability to provide a solution. In our own lives, we can follow her example by bringing our concerns to Jesus, trusting in His divine providence.
Thirdly, Mary’s role as an intercessor underscores the power of intercessory prayer. When we pray for others, we are acting in a way that mirrors Mary’s actions, bringing the needs of our loved ones before Jesus with faith and humility. What will you do TODAY?
