“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Mat 5:14).

Although we must neither love the world nor be conformed to it, there are legit ways of engaging our decadent culture. One way is to shine the light into the darkness. Children of God, like their Saviour, are by definition centres of divine illumination. One great thing about light is that it doesn’t argue or boast; it just shines. It just displaces the darkness. It’s strong enough to overcome the darkness. It reveals what the darkness conceals. It brings clarity from obscurity. It uncovers mysteries. We have to intentionally let our light shine in our society and generation (Mat 5:16). The church is a community of enlightenment. Let’s determine by faith to make a difference in our age, to dispel the darkness of ignorance, fear and confusion around us. Let’s not curse the darkness, let’s just shine the light upon our families, communities and marketplace.
