“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chr. 7:14).

In classical culture, as in many cultures today, people’s surnames were patronymic–they were derived from a father or paternal ancestor. Your surname is your common link to the family and to one father. Likewise, God our Father fully cherishes His paternity rights over His people. Beloved, it’s not enough to know your natural surname! It is your spiritual surname that entitles you to the Heavenly Father’s nurture and help. As His offspring, God has vested interests in our lives. As a rule, He does not ignore the cries of His own. When we earnestly turn to Him, we are guaranteed our Father’s attention and intervention in our personal lives and even in our land. God acknowledges His fatherly responsibility, do we admit our duty of loyalty?
