“Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee” (Ps 25:21).

I love the realism of this whole psalm. It is the outcry of a godly petitioner who is acutely aware of his vulnerability to numerous enemies around him. He knows that his piety does not exempt him from adversity. Neither do his heritage, status and destiny spare him from malicious attacks. In fact, that’s exactly what aggravates the enemy!

Are we not also often surrounded by difficult natural, human and demonic foes and challenges? Like the psalmist, we too must learn to respond to our difficult situations by faith. We too must always look to Yahweh for solutions. We must present our issues and our perceptions of the challenges we face freely before our Heavenly Father. When we do that, we will retain our right relationship with God. We will also resist the satanic corruption that often befalls unguarded sufferers. Our unwavering dependence on God frees Him to intervene on our behalf as only He can. That’s how waiting upon the Lord preserves our integrity and protects us from those mightier than us. Hallelujah!
