2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Perhaps Paul was tempted at some point to think of the grace of God, much like we do, only in terms of “saving grace” (Ep 2:8). For the Lord had to remind him of the sufficiency of His grace for the difficulties the apostle faced after rebirth.

Christ’s grace is necessary to SAVE us as well as to SUSTAIN us. In fact, the Lord Jesus points out that Paul’s weakness is an opportunity for Christ’s strength to manifest perfectly. As a result, Paul learns to rejoice in his infirmities in order to allow the power of Christ to fully rest upon him. So should we.

Beloved, your success has nothing to do with the total eradication of your personal weaknesses and life’s challenges, but the sufficiency of Christ’s grace within and upon you. For our illusions of personal strength only stand in the way. When we rely on our own strength, we deny His grace. When we settle for gimmicks, we lose out on His true help. When we admit our inadequacy, Christ’s power suffices for us. “When I am weak, then am I strong” (2Co 12:10).

Because His grace is enough, it doesn’t need supplementing! Christ’s grace does not need to be topped up, my dear friend. Our psychology cannot amplify the grace of God. Neither can our politics, traditions or philosophy augment Christ’s grace. His grace is enough! Let us learn the wisdom of intentional dependence on Christ’s sufficient grace. Stop trying to help God out. Stop your feeble efforts to top up the grace of God. Today let us confess this truth to the Lord, I have all the grace I need for every situation that comes my way. Your grace is enough for me!
