“And they that were crucified with him reviled him” (Mark 15:32b).

The dramatic irony of this scene is unmissable. Firstly, it was ironical because fellow convicts ganged up against someone in the same boat as themselves. Secondly, the guilty ones condemned the guiltless One. Yet this scene testifies of how perfectly the Son of God became Son of Man–the divine merging intricately with the human. The incarnation was so complete that His divinity was not at all obvious. Recall that it took special revelation even for His disciples to discern that Jesus was more than a man (Mat 16:17). The Bible says He had to be like His brothers (us) in every way in order to propitiate for our sin (He 2:17). Because He became completely like us, we can be completely like Him. Hallelujah!
