“For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says” (1 Cor. 14:13).

We’ve seen that praying in tongues is equivalent to praying with your spirit and is also equivalent to speaking mysteries to God (1 Cor. 14:2). Now, our text offers a provision for that hidden wisdom (mysteries) to be unlocked for our and our colleagues’ benefit. It’s the gift of interpretation of tongues that helps us to do this. Too many Spirit-filled saints fall short in this area. They stop at glossolalia and neglect the related gift of interpretation.

We’ve seen that when you pray with your spirit, you pray accurately, secretly and directly to God. Your prayers accord with the will of God (see 1 Jo 5:14). We also know that God’s will is good, perfect and acceptable (Rom 12:2). It follows therefore that if you could understand some of the hidden spiritual wisdom you pray with the spirit, you would know God’s will. That’s why it makes sense to interpret your tongues. Ask for that interpreting anointing to operate consistently in your life henceforth. Currents of divine wisdom will flow through you incessantly!
