“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6).

We lose out big time when we reduce Christmas to the typically social and commercial emphases of our day. We miss out on the mystery and blessing of the divine King-Messiah born in line with, and yet exceeding the Davidic dynasty. He’s born as a Child among us to identify with our frailty. He’s a Son given to and for us, making our redemption real.

Let us bow our knees to the King who reigns with ultimate authority (see Mat 28:18). His wonderful counsel ministers uncommon comfort to our broken hearts (see Isa 61:1). As El Gibbor, the Mighty God, He is mighty to save to the utmost (see Heb 7:25). His eternal fatherhood insures our security and supply (see Mat 6:8). Above all, let us worship the Prince who authors peace of mind, peace with God and peace among men (see Lu 2:14). Hallelujah!
