And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, “These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life”.
This church’s name derives from myrrh, a substance with aromatic, anointing and funereal uses. It’s fitting for a church that lived under the threat of persecution and death and still prevailed. This church’s experience and testimony are an inspiration for believers facing difficulties today as well as a rebuke to those who moan over petty challenges. They were anointed to triumph against all odds. They were made of sterner stuff. So are we. May a Smyrna anointing mark your life and ministry today! (See 2 Cor. 2:15, 1 John 2:27, Gal 2:20).
