1 Kings 17:13
And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.

The prophet’s advice to the desperate widow of Zarephath is instructive for every saint struggling with the problem of serious lack, poverty or debt. His counsel is based on God’s compassion to the needy as well as on His wisdom, which is unlike our thoughts. Firstly, we must not let our need create fear in our hearts, because God always has a solution for His own (see 1 Cor. 10:13). Let’s trust Him even when we don’t quite know what to do. Secondly, In desperate times, it’s better to turn your bread into seed, than to treat your seed as bread. Because what you consume can never create, but whatever you give has to multiply. In other words, we can give our way out of poverty. Of course, we must recognise and plant into genuine fertile ground.
