1 Corinthians 12:17-19
If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

Beloved, this passage addresses a very common problem in the church today. It’s the problem of spiritual imbalance. There is considerable bias in the body of Christ in favour of certain gifts over others. Without realising it, we tend to celebrate certain ministry styles and gifts at the expense of others.

We elevate some ministries to great heights and relegate others to obscurity. We magnify certain parts at the expense of the whole. There is a tendency to exaggerate some and minimise others. As a result, we lose balance in the church. That is the reason why many believers are spiritually deficient and lack spiritual soundness and balance.

No matter how mightily gifted we are, or think we are, let us not think of ourselves more highly than we ought (Rom 12:3). None of us is sufficient in himself or herself. God never intended the church to be centred around one “celebrity” preacher. Beware of the deception of man-centred ministries!

It’s all about Jesus, brethren. We must not be comfortable in any church where the focus is on one “gifted” man or woman of God. Failure to recognise the body of Christ has fatal results beloved (1Cor 11:29)!
