Hebrews 8:6
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant He mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

Sometimes believers look at such biblical characters as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Ruth, David, Elijah, Esther and Daniel with envy. We wish we had their blessing and experience. Yet, we are actually living under a much better covenant than all of them. Actually, who should be envying who here?

The new covenant is better because it is based on better promises. The key distinction between the old and the new covenant is that the former was external while the new is internal. God’s standards have not changed–they are just relocated from tablets of stone to hearts of flesh (Heb. 8:10). Now the Holy Spirit’s anointing within us teaches us all things (1 John 2:20).

As a result, God’s people no longer need to depend on human vessels in order to experience Him (Hebrews 8:11). We can all experience a personal relationship with God, who has vowed to be our God, as we are His peculiar people. We also all have an internal spiritual mechanism to discern truth from error (Hebrews 5:14).

That’s why it doesn’t make sense for a New Covenant believer to be deceived by false prophets and misled by all kinds of cults and winds of doctrine. Many Christians today need a spiritual update! They are like a computer that runs on outdated software. Beloved, don’t be a new covenant saint who lives under old covenant conditions. Don’t miss out on new covenant blessings as you long for those of a bygone era. Embrace the new, living way Jesus has carved out for us.
