I will say to the Lord, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:2

Previously we learned that the first key to appropriating our divine protection is to intentionally DWELL in the secret place of the Most High. That means staying in the presence of God more often than not. It’s a choice each one of us must consciously and continually make until it becomes a lifestyle. Until living anywhere else becomes unthinkable. Have you come to that place yet, dear friend, particularly in these perilous times?

The second key is equally important. It’s the habit of DECLARING YOUR FAITH IN GOD. My dear friend, I hope you’re not making the big mistake most people are making today! It’s the mistake of talking more about the problem than about the Solution. Believe me, that’s one trap that has entangled too many good Christians. Are you experiencing victory in this regard?

I admit it’s quite easy for us to fall back into our bad old habits of frequently echoing what everybody says about current affairs. Every news channel you turn to has much to say about the pandemic. On social media platforms it’s all about the virus. Neighbours’ conversations are now all about this scourge. Consequently, we have no time to speak forth our victory through the blood of the Lamb. Saints and sinners alike are in panic mode and gloom and doom have become the order of the day.

But how did the psalmist survive in circumstances very much like ours? How did he manage to overcome the satanic traps, deadly diseases, daylight predators, nocturnal adversaries and ferocious demons? He articulated his complete trust in Yahweh. He did not just think it-he SPOKE IT! So must we.

When you feel threatened by all sorts of forces, what will you say today? Decree and declare that Yahweh is your Refuge. What is a refuge? A refuge is a place of safety or shelter from pursuit, danger, or difficulty. So we don’t deny the existence of threats and dangers. We just choose to trust in the One who who is the ultimate shelter. Say it right now!

Also decree and declare that God is your Fortress. What is a fortress? A fortress is a military stronghold, especially a strongly fortified town. Now imagine the Lord as your military stronghold, with all the heavenly security system. See yourself in God’s maximum security stronghold. It’s impregnable, invincible and unbreakable. No enemy can touch you. No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper.

Finally decree and declare that Yahweh is your God-personally. He is not just “our God”. He is also “my God”. It’s one thing to believe that God loves and protects His people. It’s quite another to personalise it. Look, from a hygienic point of view, you have to wash or sanitise your own hands. You cannot rely on your spouse, parent, sibling or friend. Likewise, God loves it when you personalise your devotion and trust in Him. It’s not about your Pastor’s or Prophet’s faith. It’s about yours! Don’t be ashamed, afraid or lazy to declare your total trust in Jesus’ protection and deliverance from deadly diseases in times like these.
